Cool! Would love to see a code listing, I’m curious how you got the flicker to not look too repetitive. Perhaps your PWM pattern is long enough that repetition isn’t noticeable?

Oops, guess I should’ve read a little closer. Neat trick with the LSFR, hadn’t seen that before. Where did your LED modules come from? Cree seems to make quite a variety.

I got them from Deal Extreme. Not sure what model precisely (Deal Extreme is pretty sloppy with their specs/IDS) but something like this one:
