Day 27, A small 10" Sears bandsaw

Sears/Craftsman Bandsaw

Trying to get tools from garage sales is a completely hit and miss affair, often where weeks will go by when you see nothing of interest at all, but then suddenly you'll find a bunch of interesting items all at once. This was particularly true during COVID, where I acquired a lot of my arsenal of tools.

I did not have a bandsaw, and to be fair, wasn't particularly looking for one. So, naturally, in the span of one week, I found not just one but two different bandsaws, both of which I got for little more than a song. This is the smaller of the two, a little Sears/Craftsman bandsaw, probably dating to the mid 1990s (the manual bears a publication date in 1996). It is a small 10" model, meant to be bolted to the workbench, but is in good working condition. It cost me a whopping $20, and once I cleaned it and put new blades in it, it seems fine.

It lacks either the capacity or horsepower to do resawing or any difficult work or cuts, but for basic crafts usage it works fine. It also means that I can leave a wider resaw blade in my larger bandsaw (which will doubtless make an appearance in a later edition of this series) and use this for smaller cuts where the wide blade wouldn't work.

Here's a copy of the manual.

Hope your week is going well.
