Day 30, An iGaging Angle Cube, a digital level and bevel gauge
Today is a quick little item that I find occasionally useful, especially when doing bevel cuts on my table saw or adjusting the table of my band saw. It's a little digital level and bevel gauge that I got from Amazon back when I was doing more woodworking, but which still gets some periodic use.
Basically it's a little magnetic box with a digital display. You can place it on the table saw and reset it to zero.
Then you can adjust the angle of the table saw, and clip it directly to the blade to measure the angle.
It's can be recharged via USB. It's an item that isn't super inexpensive, so it's not a must have, but I am glad I have it when I need it, and if you think about it, you can find other uses for it. Like, say you want to set up two sawhorses parallel to each other, so tha tyou could lay two parallel beams across them to (say) make a torsion table. You basically just reset the level on one, and then take to the other to shim it to match. Done.
Sure, a long good quality carpenters level will probably do the job, but this is small and convenient, and I keep it stashed near the table saw. The magnetic base makes it convenient too.
Another random use: leveling and setting the polar axis of a telescope.
I found this one to be reasonably accurate, and I got it on sale, but other models are undoubtably as good (or potentially even better). If you need one, shop around. At the moment there is one made by Klein that is actually less expensive, and I rather trust that name slightly more. But I see no reason to buy another one.
Hope you all are having a good weekend.
